Now, the deep-space research ship Theseus is dispatched to the desolate outer edge of the Solar System to investigate an anomalous alien object designated 'Rorschach'. Commanded by a genetically revived paleolithic vampire, Theseus carries a crew of heavily augmented transhuman specialists—a linguist with surgically partitioned personalities, a cyborg biologist wired into machinery, a pacifist military specialist, and a surgically altered observer lacking conscious empathy.
